Modern Black Outdoor Fireplace

This gorgeous modern fireplace by @reelvibes was an extensive DIY project, but in our opinion well worth it. A concrete foundation and metal frame were built to fit a ready-made wood-burning fireplace insert and built-in firewood boxes.

The shiplap walls are made from fiber cement v-groove siding, a mixture of sand, cement, water and cellulose fiber. That’s a wise choice because of its durability and Class A fire rating.

Portable Outdoor Fireplace

This outdoor fireplace, made by @pitt_fabrication, is a genius idea that combines the coziness of a large fireplace with the portability of a freestanding fire pit. It’s made from steel and features heavy-duty casters so you can easily move it around. Place it on the back patio for party guests who wander outside, or tuck it in the far corner of your yard for a more intimate gathering spot.

Floor to Ceiling Outdoor Fireplace

A floor to ceiling stone fireplace like this one makes the back porch feel like a seamless extension of your home. A mounted TV and long curtains add to the homey feel of the space. The wood mantle was a DIY project by @homegirlmade. It helps break up the stone work, as well as provide a surface for décor.

Stucco Outdoor Fireplace

Want to build an outdoor fireplace, but not sure where to start? One way is to purchase fireplace construction plans from Backyard Flare.

Each plan follows a detailed, step-by-step construction method similar to building with Legos, but with concrete blocks. Then you can use the finishing material of your choice. The fireplace shown here was finished with stucco, which is affordable and can be painted for even more customization.

Outdoor Fireplace with Cooking Grill

This futuristic looking outdoor fireplace is ready to go — all you have to do is add the wood (and the burgers)! Made from steel and porcelain enamel, it’s highly heat-resistant and durable. The cast iron grill swings out for easy access. Use it to make dinner alfresco, or simply warm up your patio with a cozy fire.

Vertical Steel Fireplace

This all-in-one fireplace and wood storage unit would be an ultra-modern addition to your outdoor space. This model comes from the French company Woodify Brasero.

The unusual finish is due to the weathering steel construction. Weathering steel is a heat-resistant steel alloy which forms a beautiful rust-like appearance after being exposed to the elements.

Mixed Material Outdoor Fireplace

The use of stone and wood on this outdoor fireplace gives it a fresh look and creates a focal point for the outdoor sitting area. When decorating a covered outdoor space like this one, designed by @stylewithwisdom2, take direction from your indoor décor. The same style of artwork and accessories that you love inside can be carried outside to add your personal stamp. Upgrade your fireplace with these unique painted fireplace ideas.

Stone Veneer Outdoor Fireplace

Here’s another fireplace built with a Backyard Flare construction plan. The base was finished with simple stacked stone veneer whitewashed for a clean look. The horizontal surfaces feature affordable patio pavers, and the finishing touch is a custom wood mantle.

Propane Outdoor Fireplace

Here’s another ready-made outdoor fireplace that you can own with the click of a button. It runs off propane (with a 55,000 BTU output!) for easy set up — no messy wood or gas hook-up required. The finish features stucco and bedrock, and the tiles can be painted for a custom look.
