How We Build Our Projects 

Before we share our how-to guides with you, the Family Handyman projects team vets each project idea to ensure it’s safe and accessible for DIYers. If it’s not something we’d be comfortable doing in our own homes, we wouldn’t recommend it to our readers.   

For each project, we start with the idea and make a plan. Then, we build it in our studio or on location, making any necessary adjustments along the way, taking photos for each step and delivering a comprehensive set of instructions that are easy to follow. You’ll also get a list of tools and materials, as well as an estimate of the cost and time it takes to complete a project, to ensure the project is a fit for you and that you have everything you need before you start. 

When you’re reading a how-to project from one of Family Handyman’s editors or contributors, you can be assured that it’s been tested and informed by experts.

However, as DIYers, we firmly believe hands-on experience matters most, which is why we don’t use AI writing tools to write our content.
