Laundry Room Sinks: Love ‘Em or Loath ‘Em

I’ve always thought of a laundry room sink as either a luxury (think a gorgeous farmhouse sink in a kitchen-size laundry room) or an eyesore (I’m looking at you, ugly plastic utility sink).

But after gathering up all this laundry room sink inspiration, I’ve realized they come in all sorts of beautiful styles. Many are affordable and DIY friendly. I even included a genius idea for giving that builder-grade utility sink an easy makeover!

The Power of Paint

This wall-mounted utility sink was a filthy mess before @tinacesaro got her hands on it.

To give the sink an affordable makeover, Cesaro says, “I used one coat of Kilz brand primer and then two coats of Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Ultra Cover Paint in semi-gloss black. I used a small foam roller to avoid streaks.” I’m shocked by how much power is in a can of black paint!

Apron Front Sink

An apron front sink (aka a farmhouse sink) elevates your laundry space. Notice this laundry room by @oursanguinehome. It’s big, but when you use high-end products like that apron-front sink, your small laundry room makes a big impact.

Besides the sink, I’m immediately drawn to the marble countertops, hex backsplash, brass hardware and sophisticated neutral color palette. I could do laundry here all day! Looking for more ideas? Check out our collection of charming farmhouse laundry room ideas.

Built-In Utility Sink

Would you believe this built-in sink by @home.on.bearcreek is actually just a regular utility sink? She built the wood enclosure from scratch, complete with a hinged door that folds down when she needs access underneath.

I love the attached open shelving above the sink, furthering the built-in style look and providing additional storage space.

Freestanding Sink

When I found this laundry room by @sewbrightcreations, I realized not all utility sinks are created equal. This freestanding utility sink (here’s a similar model) is surprisingly stylish and includes a sleek storage cabinet and pull-out faucet. The best part? She installed it herself!

This type of laundry room sink is great for those of us who haven’t quite mastered power tools or woodworking skills.

Sink Folding Station

The one drawback of a laundry room sink? It takes away precious folding space. And that’s why I think this idea from @onthedailywith.chels is genius.

Using a piece of butcher block, she made a template of the sink on the underside and chiseled out an indention. Now when it’s time to fold, she simply fits the butcher block over the sink to create extra counter space. The best of both worlds!

Plywood Sink Enclosure

Here’s another DIY sink enclosure that caught my eye because it looks high-end, but was made entirely out of plywood! After making the base shape, she layered on pieces of plywood to create faux drawers.

The pretty dusty green color is Acacia Haze by Sherwin-Williams, and the modern gold handles are the perfect finishing detail. The entire thing slides out if she needs to access the plumbing underneath.

Hidden Sink

I actually gasped when I saw this hidden sink from @buildwithpittman. If you’re designing a new laundry room, this cool idea is worth discussing with your contractor.

The sink fits in a hole cut in the countertop, with the removed section of counter material becoming a sink cover. The fold-down faucet, concealing the sink and faucet when the cover is on, sets this project apart.

Sink Skirt

A sink skirt offers a simple way to hide an ugly sink or unattractive plumbing pipes. Watch as @thisoldbrickhouse makes a cute gingham skirt for her laundry room sink using no-sew bonding tape and a tension rod.

I love how it brings softness and pattern in contrast to the laundry room’s hard surfaces. And you can easily switch out the fabric when you’re ready for a change.

DIY Tub Sink

To fit her vintage farmhouse aesthetic, @lifeonthecountyline converted this old galvanized wash tub into a cute laundry room sink.

The steel base is a DIY welding project. Then add the plumbing pipes and a faucet, and you have a sink! I think the way she left the sink’s imperfections and age is so charming, and brings character to a space that can often be sterile and bland.

Vintage Concrete Sink

This house, designed by @lisastatondesign, is full of salvaged items, including this old concrete sink that’s been restored to use in the laundry room.

Crisp white subway tile, a wall-mounted faucet and recycled wood countertops compliment the sink and accomplish the eclectic vintage vibe. And don’t even get me started on those beautiful green cabinets. Altogether, I’m getting major laundry room envy!
