The 8 Best Bidet Toilet Seats For Your Home BathroomDEANE BIERMEIER FOR FAMILY HANDYMAN

The bidet toilet seat is is the ultimate bathroom upgrade—and it doesn’t require any remodeling or long-term saving to experience the luxury sensation of hands-free backside cleansing.

That’s right, instead of needing an entire separate bathroom fixture to do the work of a handful of tissue paper, a bidet toilet seat attaches to the toilet fixture and becomes a seat for taking care of business without leaving behind a trace. Even some of the best toilet seats on the market now incorporate bidet functions into their design.

With bidet toilet seat attachments growing in popularity, I decided to test several to see which ones are up to the challenge and worthy of our readers’ time and money. As a long-time home repair and maintenance technician and expert with over 30 years of experience, I was up for the challenge of finding the absolute best bidet toilet seats.

Toto Washlet C5

Best Overall Bidet Toilet Seat

Toto Washlet C5

Sometimes, the best product for a job is the one that simply feels the best. The Toto Washlet C5‘s slim but durable build feels great to sit on and features some of the best functions you can find in a bidet seat.

I found the installation to be straightforward with pliers. After five minutes, with the mounting plate in place, the seat simply snaps into position. Ten more minutes to make plumbing connections, and the seat is ready for action—and the action is worth it. The seat heats quickly when in use, and the warm water reservoir does its job well, never failing to deliver warm water immediately.

The Toto Washlet C5 behaves just as it says it will. The unique automatic pre-misting function is a stand-out feature on this bidet and one that could be very useful for an older bowl that may have lost some of its natural slickness.

My only concerns with the Toto bidet are the short, 1-year warranty and the remote control, which could use some descriptive text. While I did get used to the diagrams quickly, some owners may initially find the remote confusing. Also, the Toto C5 doesn’t have a nightlight function in case that’s a feature you desire.

Pros

  • Pre-misting helps keep bowl clean
  • Durable feel with slim design
  • Personalized settings

Cons

  • Remote control could use more description
  • No nightlight

Brondell Ecoseat Swash
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Best Non-Electric Bidet Toilet Seat

Brondell Ecoseat Swash

The Brondell Ecoseat Swash is a non-electric bidet toilet seat that’s simple to install and operate while being gentle on your budget. Bidet attachments come in several varieties, some of which are also seats, and many don’t require electricity for operation. The Brondell Ecoseat Swash requires no nearby outlet and simply attaches to your home’s water supply.

The electricity-free design is excellent for saving on energy costs. However, as I discovered, a home’s ambient water temperature can feel pretty chilly in cold-climate winters. That said, the Ecoseat seems perfect for homes in warmer climates.

I liked the simplicity of this bidet seat. After fidgeting with several other models’ sometimes confusing remote control functions, having no remote and just a simple water pressure dial to manage was refreshing.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly pricing
  • Simple operation
  • Electrical outlet unnecessary

Cons

  • No heated water
  • No remote control

Brondell Swash Thinline
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Best Splurge Bidet Toilet Seat

Brondell Swash Thinline

Bidet shoppers need look no further if all-out luxury is the goal. The Brondell Swash Thinline is virtually the exact opposite of the company’s non-electric bidet seat we also tested. The Brondell Swash has it all, including a slim design with a durable feel, simple installation, easy-to-use remote control, a slow-close lid, nightlights and a long list of washing and drying functions.

It took a long time to finally get off the Swash Thinline. I wanted to stay and play with all the functions instead of getting up to write about them. The bidet seat has everything you could want for your backside, and the remote was easy to operate after just a few minutes of getting used to it. The product also comes with a generous 3-year warranty. The only downside is the Swash’s price tag, which is the highest on our list of tested bidets, but if you’re willing to splurge, this pick is basically unbeatable.

Pros

  • Includes every feature you could want in a bidet
  • Slim design
  • 3-year warranty

Cons

  • Some users say drying function could be stronger
  • Expensive

Biobidet Bb 550
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Best Budget Bidet Toilet Seat

BioBidet BB-550

Toilet seat bidets come in such wide price ranges that it can be challenging to compare them. While how much a bidet costs is often a tell-tale sign of how luxurious it may be, there are some exceptions to the rule. The BioBidet BB-500 is just such an example.

At first glance, the BioBidet BB-550 (the upgraded version of the BB-500) looked like any other well-designed, sleek bidet toilet seat. In fact, it seemed even a bit simpler than some models we tested. You won’t find the remote control for it—it doesn’t comes with one. But aside from its absence, I found that very little was different from far more expensive models except in terms of function.

The BioBidet’s nightlight was impressively bright, the seat heated quickly when in use and the air dryer was as powerful as more costly seats. I was concerned about not having the convenience of a remote control. However, it turned out not to be an issue at all, as the function controls are easy to find on both sides and simple to operate. Unless you really, really want a remote control, the BB-550 has all you need.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly pricing
  • Impressive features for the price

Cons

  • No remote

Fhma23 Alpha Bidet Jx Deane Biermeier 05 Msedit
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Most Comfortable Bidet Toilet Seat

Alpha Bidet JX

While staying on the toilet seat all day might not be the most productive way to spend free time, it sure could feel good on an Alpha Bidet JX. The JX unit is one of Alpha Bidet’s premier models, featuring almost everything you could ask for in a bidet toilet seat. The product even comes with a generous 3-year warranty. I appreciated the simple, one-touch power save button right on the top of the unit.

The Alpha Bidet JX was noticeably more comfortable than all the rest of the models I tested. The JX has a slim profile design, for sure, but the seat feels like it’s sitting flat, unlike many models with a forward-leaning slope feel. It felt much more like a traditional toilet seat than the other bidet attachments.

The only downside I found had to do with the nightlight. Though a sensor detects the room lighting and adjusts the brightness of the light, in the dark of night, the light was just a bit too bright for sleepy-eye comfort.

Pros

  • Slim, comfortable design
  • 3-year warranty
  • Easy on-and-off power save function

Cons

  • Nightlight a little too bright

Bronde Swash Le99
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Best Value Bidet Toilet Seat

Brondell Swash LE-99

Finding product value is more than simply getting a low price. It means discovering a product with similar features as the more expensive versions. Finding value is even more fun when the functionality of those features rivals the best available.

The Brondell Swash LE-99 offers almost all of the functions you’d find in a more expensive model but at a lower price. I was surprised to learn that it cost so much less than our splurge pick, which is also a Brondell bidet.

However, though the functions were similar to the more expensive model, they weren’t identical. The air dry feature seemed a little weak, and the design seemed less conducive to everyday use. The large gaps in the design might make it more susceptible to dirt and therefore more difficult to keep clean.

Pros

  • Most features for your money
  • 3-year warranty
  • Solid construction

Cons

  • May be challenging to clean

The Omigo Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Easiest to Clean Bidet Toilet Seat

Omigo Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat

Most of the best toilet cleaners are too powerful for use on the plastic finishes of bidet toilet seats. One of the very few downsides to owning a bidet toilet seat is keeping it clean. And, while none of them classify as particularly easy to clean, I was impressed with the Omigo Luxury Bidet Toilet Seat. Its large surfaces and gaps made it easier to clean than the other testing models and even the remote control has a nearly flat face for simple wiping.

The Omigo Luxury Bidet toilet seat is a full-function model with all of the features you’d expect from a high-end bidet. It also comes with a relatively high price tag to match. However, all of the functions worked perfectly for me.

Pros

  • Large-gap and surface design is easy to clean
  • Individual user settings
  • 3-year warranty

Cons

  • Expensive

Alpha Bidet Ux Pearl
Deane Biermeier for Family Handyman

Most Attractive Bidet Toilet Seat

Alpha Bidet UX Pearl

Not everyone needs to have the prettiest toilet seat. However, my first impression of the Alpha Bidet UX Pearl was just that. It’s a pretty bidet toilet seat. The simple design and relatively low profile would likely look great in any bathroom.

The UX Pearl delivers on functionality, too. Because it’s not priced as a budget model by any means, I expected high-level performance. The full-function design offered even more features than other Alpha products. As expected, I found each function to perform flawlessly, and the product durability is just as good as other Alpha Bidet models.

Pros

  • Clean-looking design
  • 3-year warranty
  • Easy-to-operate remote control

Cons

  • Expensive

What to Look for When Buying a Bidet Toilet Seat

The right bidet toilet seat for you depends on your desired features and how much you’re willing to spend. While it might make sense to outfit the best toilets with a bidet seat that has all the bells and whistles, the fact is that not everybody needs (or even wants) all of the functions the most expensive seats offer. The key factors to consider include:

Size: Toilets are available in elongated and round shapes. Be sure to purchase the bidet seat that fits your toilet.

Comfort: Bidet toilet seats can get pretty thick, resembling a raised toilet seat in some cases. Choose a slim model if a tall seat would feel uncomfortable or strange.

Functions: Bidet toilet seats have functions that range from heated seating and warm water to multiple spray patterns, warm air drying functions and remote control operation. However, as the number of features increase, so does the price.

Price: Bidets cost real money. Non-electric attachment models can cost $100 or less, while full-function models might cost several hundred dollars.

FAQ

What is the most comfortable bidet seat?

Of the bidets in our test, the Alpha Bidet JX was the most comfortable due to its non-sloping seating surface and sturdy design. The product felt durable and didn’t move from its mounting even after some abuse to test its ruggedness. The Alpha Bidet JX we tested fit an elongated toilet. However, judging by the testing success, we can confidently conclude that the shorter version is just as comfortable.

How long do bidet seats last?

Most toilet seat bidets have warranties lasting between a year and five years. However, the expected lifespan of most of these products is between six and ten. Bidet toilet seats see more or less use and wear depending on family size, among other factors. As a mechanical device that can wear out, expect five or six years from a busy bidet and ten or more years from a less-used one.
