Circular-Saw Cutting Guide

We’ve used this great tip in our shop for years because you can cut plywood as accurately with a circular saw as you can with a table saw.
We’ve used this great tip in our shop for years because you can cut plywood as accurately with a circular saw as you can with a table saw— and no helper necessary! To make it:
■ Cut a 5-in. wide strip from one factory side of an 8-ft. x 1/2-in. sheet of plywood.
■ Cut a 12-in. strip and screw the 5-in. strip on top of it with 3/4-in. drywall screws. Be sure the factory edge on the 5-in. piece runs toward the saw side on top of the 12-in. piece.
■ Run the circular saw down the jig using the factory edge as your guide. This cuts off the waste.
To use the guide, mark both ends of the plywood you’re cutting to the width you need, then align the edge of the jig with your marks. Clamp it. Now run the saw along the guide to cut the plywood. You’ll cut straight and accurately every time as the factory edge holds the saw on line. Our thanks to Bob Ungar for this hugely useful tip
