Ripping Thin Strips the Safe Way
Ripping thin strips right against the fence can be dangerous because in most cases you have to remove your blade guard just to make the cut. Increase the safety factor dramatically by cutting a piece of particleboard or plywood 6 in. wide and 24 or more inches long. Screw a homemade handle from underneath near the back and then screw a heel pusher to the back edge as shown. Set the fence 6 in. from the blade plus the thickness of your strip and then push the board through the saw. The handle keeps your fingers safely away from the blade and allows you to make exact width strips with each pass.
