Quick Center-Finding

This tip is especially helpful when you’re working with boards that are longer than your tape measure, or when you don’t want to halve awkward numbers.

finding the center of a board quickly

To find the center of a long board, lengthwise and widthwise, measure the same distance in from each end a few inches shy of the center area. Mark each measurement with a square across the board’s face, then use a straightedge to connect the corners of the middle rectangle. The intersection of the “X” is dead center in both directions.

This tip is especially helpful when you’re working with boards that are longer than your tape measure, or when you don’t want to halve awkward numbers like 27-11/16!
