Combine these two carpenter’s tools—a try square and a speed square—to measure everything from the diameter of round bun feet to Aunt Ann’s prize mangoes. Tighten the try square’s adjustable leg at the 2-in. mark, then slide the speed square along the try square’s blade. The speed square’s metal ridge keeps it parallel to the try square’s adjustable leg. When the sliding caliper touches the workpiece, read the measurement where the speed square crosses the try square’s blade and subtract 2 in. for the exact measurement. Thanks to Stuart Osedo for this inventive tip.
