One night while Katie Forbes was out walking her dog, she found this cream and gold desk with two broken legs and a rusted out drawer. It was out on the curb for trash! She went home, got her truck, loaded the desk up and brought it home to her husband Derick’s shop.

“I saw the potential in the desk. That night I used wood glue and clamps to realign the legs and reset them to their original position. For the next few weekends, I worked on it a little at a time sanding it down and stripping off the three different colors of paint, cleaning up the rusted drawer slides, and placing L brackets to reinforce the legs. A quick trip to the hardware store’s bargain bin would seal the deal. My wife picked out the hardware, two cans of paint and I found some corner molding in a scrap bin to finish the project.
When I got back to the shop, I used some left over quarter inch plywood to make the lap drawer and stained it to match the paint, I then cut and painted the corner molding to flow the gap. Katie painted the desk. It became a project we were both able to work on together, letting us both focus on the things we enjoy to do.” — Derick
