Home improvement show lovers may remember the phrase, “Move that bus!” The popular catchphrase was used on the show Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition before the big reveal. The show has been off the air for six years, but HGTV says it’s bringing the popular series back in 2020!
This home improvement show focuses on home renovations for families who give back to their communities. The renovation includes interior, exterior and landscaping that is all completed in seven days while the family is sent away on a family vacation for a week.
HGTV says it plans to produce 10 new episodes. Production is already underway, and will bring big names to help execute life-changing transformations for families.
Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson will host the series reboot, while special guest stars Tarek El Moussa (Flip or Flop), Tamra Day (Bargain Mansions) and Jasmine Roth (Hidden Potential) will all be featured in episodes. In addition, HGTV says Ty Pennington, the star of the original series, will be back to be the hands-on renovator. All will work alongside volunteers and other experts to customize a home the will meet the needs of each featured family.
“Being a part of the Extreme Makeover family has already proven to be one of the most profound experiences of my life,” Ferguson said. “This is more than a great job. It’s a reminder that there is a lot of good in this world and that the power of generosity and compassion is unstoppable when we come together.”
“I’m honored to roll up my sleeves and relive the magic of the most positive, life-changing show I’ve ever been a part of,” Pennington added. “I’m passionate about design and making positive change in people’s lives. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition shows you what amazing things can happen when people work together. Let’s do it!”
Can’t wait for the new episodes? Don’t worry—HGTV says it secured the rights to run 100 episodes of the original series that ran on ABC from 2003 to 2012 leading up to the airing of the reboot. The HGTV reboot will be available on demand across all platforms and on HGTV GO.
