How to Make a Privacy Screen with Salvaged Closet Doors

Find a few closet doors or tall shutters at your local salvage yard and turn them into a unique, vintage-style privacy screen. Here’s how to do it.

Tools & Materials

  • Closet doors or tall shutters (3)
  • Vintage hinges (4)
  • Hinge screws
  • Drill/driver
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil

Steps

Wipe down the doors to remove dust and dirt.

Mark the placement of the hinges on both sides of the middle door. I measured 15 in. from the top and 15 in. from the bottom. For the top hinges, mark where the top edge of the hinges should be placed. For the bottom hinges, mark where the bottom edge of the hinges should be placed.

Use the hinges as a template to mark the screw placement for each hinge. Be sure to align the hinges with the marks at 15 in.

Predrill holes for the screws and screw the hinges to the middle door.

Stand up the middle door and, one at a time, align the outer doors, marking the placement of the screws. Predrill holes for the screws and screw the hinges to the outer two doors.
