Portable Pizza Oven in BackyardMary Henn/Family Handyman

Fall is my favorite time to cook outdoors—and while I don’t consider myself a pit master by any means, I frequently use my Solo Stove pizza oven to whip up dinner for family and friends when the weather is nice. It’s a great excuse to have everyone over in the backyard, and pizzas are a great way to feed a large crowd on a budget.

And if you’re afraid you might get bored of pie-making weekend after weekend, your Solo Stove pizza oven can do more than bake a pizza. (I’ll explain more below). So, whether you have the Pi Prime Pizza Oven or the Pi Fire for your Bonfire or other Solo Stove fire pit, you’ll want to check out these Solo Stove pizza oven accessories that will take your outdoor cooking game to a whole new level.

High Heat Gloves Mary Henn/Family Handyman

High-Heat Gloves

Safety first! These Solo Stove Gloves provide advanced thermal protection when handling hot tools. No one wants burnt fingers when baking pizzas, and using the right tools along with these high-heat-resistant gloves will protect your hands when you grab hot tools that have just been near the fire. I wear these gloves every time I make a pie with my outdoor pizza oven, and they haven’t failed me yet.

Stainless Turner 2.0 Mary Henn/Family Handyman

Pi Stainless Turner 2.0

When it comes to tools, I wouldn’t dream of launching a pizza into my outdoor oven without this stainless-steel pi turner. The turner has an extra-long handle that allows you to keep a safe distance from the heat while you launch, rotate and retrieve your pizza. It’s also made of the same heat-resistant stainless steel as your Solo Stove fire pit, so it will hold up against the hot flames required to fire a ‘za.

Pizza on Bamboo Pizza Peeler Mary Henn/Family Handyman

This pizza peel is made of lightweight bamboo, and I use it every time I prep a pie in the kitchen. After the pizza is made, the Pi Turner helps me lift it from the peel to launch it into the oven. The secret to a smooth transition is using plenty of flour on the peel to keep the dough from sticking. Bonus: This bamboo peel is totally Insta-worthy—it looks great in the kitchen, on the table and in pictures. I get compliments on it every time I have guests over for backyard pizza.

Infrared Thermometer

Baking a pizza at the wrong temperature can be detrimental to the process. I find that my pizzas turn out best with a fire of about 700 degrees. With the Solo Stove thermometer, just point and press a button to get an accurate reading of how hot the flames are roaring. I love that I can stand at a distance from the fire and aim the laser pointer into the pizza oven—it’s really that easy.

Prep Board for Pizza Mary Henn/Family Handyman

Pi Prep Board

This prep board was a later addition to my arsenal of Solo Stove accessories, and it was a game changer—especially when I have family and friends over to help make pizzas. The prep board lets you roll out dough, measure the size of your crust and chop and store toppings in three enclosed containers on the side.

The prep board—which is made with the same material as the bamboo peel—is designed to hang over the side of your prep area so that the topping containers are level with the rest of the station (genius!). The board is for outside use, as the topping containers are shatterproof and machine washable, and the easy-open container lids keep bugs and germs out of the way.

Pizza Docker Mary Henn/Family Handyman

If you really want to step up your pie game, use this pizza docker to help you achieve even, consistent crusts while reducing air bubbles and puffing. After rolling out my dough, I gently roll the docker over the entire surface of my pizza before adding sauce and toppings. Hello, bubble-free crust!

If you’re like me, you may have had your outdoor pizza oven, accessories and ingredients all ready to go without thinking about where you’re going to put your pizza oven. Whoops. Thankfully, I was able to dig out an old outdoor table from the garage, but the last thing you want to find yourself doing is using your pizza oven on the ground. The Solo Stove Pi Stand eliminates that problem. It holds your pizza oven on a wheeled storage cart and provides plenty of room for prep space and tools.

Brush with metal bristles Mary Henn/Family Handyman

Pizza Oven Brush

You’ll probably find your pizza oven filled with ash after firing several pizzas in a row—at least, I did—and you don’t want that burnt debris cooked into the bottom of new pies. Brushing crumbs from your oven in between uses will help keep your backyard oven in the best shape and deliver better-tasting pizza. This Pizza Oven Brush is lightweight with a bamboo frame, and its stainless-steel bristles and scraper are very durable.

Pi Pizza Rocker Blade

Sometimes a tiny pizza cutter doesn’t quite do the job when slicing up wood-fired pies. This ultra-sharp, giant rocker blade is over 18 inches long and effortlessly slices through any kind of crust. I love this tool for cutting any pizza, but especially those topped with fresh greens and drizzle, as the sharp rocker doesn’t totally disrupt the toppings. This tool is key to serving up pretty pizzas.

Pi Cast Iron Cookware Set

In case nobody told you, you can use your Solo Stove Pizza Oven for more than just pizzas. Yeah, that’s right. The Pi Cast Iron Cookware Set lets you fry, grill and bake food in your pizza oven with ease. This set is great for crisping or searing foods at high temperatures. The set comes with a round skillet, reversible grill and griddle square skillet and a base made of bamboo and stainless steel. Backyard cooking just got a whole lot more creative!
