Backyard Oasis
Family time is important to Juan Zetino. He has served our country with numerous deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq and Japan. So he wanted to build an oasis to reconnect with his family. “My inspiration came from reading The Family Handyman and other publications. It took me about six to eight months to complete this project, with planning being the most important aspect.” – Juan
Pergola
Juan built this pergola over a stone patio to help provide shade on those hot summer days.
Outdoor Kitchen
Since Juan’s family spends so much time outdoors, their backyard would not be complete without an outdoor kitchen, The kitchen island was built with heavy-gauge steel studs, backer board, a stucco finish and a tile countertop. Check out how to tune up your grill.
Outdoor Sink
For added convenience, Juan equipped the kitchen with running water. Click here to find out how to install an outdoor faucet.
Backyard Path
Juan incorporated an outdoor path that brings family and friends together at a small fire pit in the center. It’s a great place to gather and enjoy the great weather.
Fire Pit
This fire pit was crafted with natural stones and mortar. The Adirondack chairs are the perfect accent—and make the fire pit space a relaxing place to unwind.
Backyard Pavilion
A pavilion was built over the hot tub to provide privacy and protection from the elements, while allowing Juan and his family to enjoy the view of his backyard. Check out this similar project: an outdoor living room.
Privacy Screen
A corrugated metal panel was used to create this unique privacy screen. The metal is tough, light weight and weather resistant.
Wood Deck
This ground-level wood deck is finished in a bright color, and Juan added a barrel bar table, a love seat and an outdoor coffee table.
Fold-Down Shelf
This wall-mounted shelf with a fold-down feature is great for entertaining guests. Plus: Build this round picnic table.
