Paper Plate Holiday Elf

How To:

  1. Cut green construction paper into a large, hat-shaped triangle.
  2. Cut a strip of the red construction paper with one wavy edge.
  3. Hot glue the red construction paper under the brim of the hat with the wavy edge still visible, and then glue that piece to the top of your paper plate. Once your hat is on the plate, glue a row of cotton balls to the rim of the hat and a single cotton ball at its peak.
  4. Cut two pointy ears from separate paper plate and glue them to the paper plate in the same place where the ears typically go on an elf.
  5. Glue your wiggle eyes to the plate.
  6. Draw a nice, happy smile on your elf.
  7. If you want to, cut a trapezoid shape out of the red construction paper and attach it to the bottom of the plate to give your elf a shirt. You can even glue on a little cotton ball button!

Popsicle Stick Christmas Tree

How To:

  1. First, paint six popsicle sticks green.
  2. Lay out three of the popsicle sticks in a triangle shape and glue them together.
  3. Glue a popsicle stick from one point of the triangle straight up and down. This will serve as the “trunk” of your tree. On the opposite side from where you glued your trunk, attach two more popsicle sticks so that they split the difference between the trunk and the bottom points of the triangle.
  4. Once your glue has dried, decorate the tree as you see fit. To decorate the one pictured above, we sprinkled white paint across the surface to look like snow and painted on some red lights.

Kid Friendly Hanukkah Menorah

How To:

  1. Line up your nine candles and measure the length needed for your base.
  2. Cut the base to length, paint it and let it dry.
  3. Have fun decorating the candles with your choice of embellishments.
  4. Stick a hook-side Velcro dot to the bottom of each candle, making sure it doesn’t cover the little switch. Place a loop-side dot on the base for each candle and place the candles on the base. You can also use a glue gun to attach the votives.

Clothespin Star Ornament

How To:

  1. Hot glue eight clothespins into a star shape with all of the pins pointing towards each other. This gluing process can be a little messy, so make sure you’ve got some sort of drop cloth covering your working surface.
  2. Once your star has been assembled, brush white paint over the surface. Then sprinkle glitter across the paint before it has dried.
  3. Glue a ribbon loop to the back of the ornament.

Ice Lanterns

How To:

  1. Place the smaller bowl facedown in the bottom of the larger bowl (a small cup also works for this part).
  2. Pour water into the larger bowl until it is mostly full.
  3. Put the bowl into a freezer overnight (you can also just put it outside if the temperatures in your area are cold enough).
  4.  Once the water in your bowl has turned to ice, remove it from the freezer and let it thaw slightly so that you can free it from the bowl.
  5. Remove the smaller mixing bowl from the ice and place a flameless candle in the cavity it created.
  6. Place the lantern on your porch or along your driveway.

Twig and Yarn Decoration

How To:

  1. Go outside and collect an assortment of different-sized twigs.
  2.  Glue the twigs together into a long triangle.
  3. Place a dot of hot glue in one corner of the triangle and attach one end of the yarn to it . Then, wrap and wind the yarn around the frame of twigs until the entire area is covered in criss-crossed yarn. Once the frame is entirely wrapped, cut the yarn and attach the other end with a dot of hot glue to another of the corners.
  4. Decorate the tree. We used the red ribbon as a garland and created a star out of the yellow ribbon.

Pinecone Elf

How To:

  1. Glue a bead onto the top of one of the pinecones.
  2. Cut a triangle out of the red felt. Lay a bead of glue along one of the edges of the triangle and roll the felt into the cone shape of an elf hat.
  3. Glue the hat to the bead on the pinecone.
  4. Glue two wiggle eyes beneath the brim of the hat.
  5. Cut a strip of green felt and wrap it between the pinecone and the bead like a scarf.

Joint Compound Snowball Ornaments

How To:

  1. Smear a thick layer of joint compound onto a paper plate. Then, while wearing the disposable gloves, take one of the foam balls and roll it around in the joint compound until the surface is fully coated.
  2.  If you want a particularly shiny snowball, sprinkle glitter across the joint compound before it has the chance to dry.
  3.  Set the ball to the side and let it dry.
  4.  Once the joint compound has dried out, the surface can be painted. This is an optional and is only necessary if you want your snowballs to look pure white or metallic.
  5. Hot glue the ribbon to the side of the ball.
