Toothpicks to Renew Stripped Screw Holes

If a screw turns but doesn’t tighten, the screw hole is stripped. My father gave me great advice for fixing stripped screw holes for hinges.

  1. First, remove the loose hinge.
  2. Dip toothpicks in wood glue, and jam as many as you can into the hole.
  3. When the glue is dry, trim the toothpicks and drill a new pilot hole for the screw.
