The handheld attachment on your vacuum is not just for cleaning hard-to-reach places. Bed manufacturer, Serta suggests using the attachment to deep clean your mattress every few months. Simply run the attachment across the mattress to suck up dirt and dust from the fabric. If you have a pillow-top with seams and quilting, be sure to get in between the stitching.
Mattress seller Sealy recommends spot cleaning your sleep system, when necessary. And then, only dabbing it with mild soap and cold water. For tough stains you may need to work a little harder. One option is a three-part combo of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and water in a spray bottle. Consumer Reports recommends a spray bottle mixture of warm water and dish detergent to remove set-in stains.
You may not notice it, but over time sweat and natural body oil can build up and make your mattress smell bad. Get rid of those odors by sprinkling a layer of baking soda on the mattress fabric. Let it sit for a few minutes then vacuum for a fresh start. Flip and repeat.
