Updated: Jan. 20, 2023

Finding the perfect palette for your sleep sanctuary has never been easier. Check out the master bedroom color combinations that inspired us.

Don’t just paint it gray and call it good. Your master bedroom or master suite should reflect your personality and the goals of your space. A cozy retreat? Romance and drama? Breezy and meditative? Color theory being what it is, some colors will just always look better together. But there are some fun, creative and unexpected takes and bedroom colors out there that can infuse your space with what makes you feel most at home. These are the top 12 we found and loved:

1. Neutral Gear

This neutral palette is anything but boring. Consider combining a cool white, warm white, fawn taupe and pop of marigold for a soothing but trend-forward color combination. Adding in rust, dusty rose and black and white patterned accents creates a visually pleasing palette without feeling overdone.

2. Ocean Dream

Flip the script. Instead of an accent wall, consider an accent ceiling in a soothing ocean hue. Pairing it with a warm yellowy white wall brings out the best in both colors. This color combo somehow has the ability to be both soothing and sunny at the same time. Just like the beach.

3. French Romance

Pairing sophisticated beige-y pink with a cool gray, white and champagne is the ultimate in Paris apartment-style luxury. Metal accents or lighting in rose gold, brass or copper would also really shine with this color palette.

4. High Drama

Take an ordinary bedroom and make it into a true boudoir, like this one from Farrow & Ball. A deep magenta red and a purple-y black accented with copper, rose gold, or cool grays and light pinks feels like a fresh, inspired combo that will make you want to tuck in with a book and some candlelight. Dark, dramatic, dreamy.

5. Natural Materials

Go super-saturated with an all-over olive, such as this one. It will stand up to almost any color combo you add to it, but it feels completely un-neutral on its own. For a outdoors-in aesthetic, consider pairing a saturated olive with flax or linen-infused whites. This color practically begs to be friends with a pale pink, too.

6. Jewel Box

Jewel tones are making a huge comeback, and are surprisingly versatile. Bold greens have risen to the top of jewel-tone choices in interior design in the last couple of years, and a fresh complementary pairing of greens to consider is emerald and teal. Break it up with mustard or magenta.

7. Diamonds and Rust

Color palettes are taking a cue from the ’70s, which means desert-infused hues are hot again. Combine rusty red and dusty rose with white and mustard for a super-fresh desert oasis. Wicker, rattan and furniture with caning will set off this color scheme nicely.

8. Cool Hues

Wicker, gray and white is the next take on the über-Instagrammable all-white we’ve been seeing for years. Punctuate that all-white canvas with some cool heather grays, easy tans and a few houseplants for that look many call Millennial, but we just call good taste.

9. Southwestern Sunset

Take a cue from the Southwest palette. Clay, terra-cotta, adobe and desert sunsets exist in nature together, so why not a bedroom? Combining tone-on-tone terra-cotta clay and dusty pink turns modern with cool grays and whites and shiny or matte gold accents.

10. Dress Blues

Navy and white has been a stalwart color combination for many decades, but adding chambray puts a modern twist on the classic pairing. For a shipshape look, pair with a crisp white. Off whites and natural linen and flax tones will make the space feel even more Cape Cod traditional. Blonde and walnut wood tones can also successfully anchor this color combo.

11. Luxe Lavender

Far from being a “little girl” color, lavender is ridiculously sophisticated, especially when paired with gray. Multiple shades in the same family create depth as the colors draw you in to your bedroom retreat.

12. Wine and Cognac

A rich, potent combination, wine and cognac leather can be offset with a fresh white or creamy gray. While purple and orange are nearly opposites on the color wheel, this combo tugs each more toward the middle for a really sophisticated and surprising result.
