When a 50-ft. cherry tree in Charles Johnson’s backyard toppled over, he saw it as a source for furniture rather than as potential firewood. A local sawmill turned the trunk into boards, and after they had dried for a year, Charles designed and built this elephant table for his daughter’s bedroom—one of a kind and just the right size. The custom top came from a glass-and-mirror supplier.
