Adding a few personalized touches to The Family Handyman’s design, reader Jeffrey Pease built the Flip Flop Step Stool, originally published in the April 2015 issue, for his granddaughter.
With his son being a huge Batman fan and his granddaughter being named not-so-coincidentally Robin, Jeffrey thought it fitting to add the signature “R” and red and yellow colors of his granddaughter’s namesake superhero character.

“I added safety features such as cross-routed grooves for traction on each step,” Jeffrey says, “and roughed-up a pair of brass washers on each ‘axel’ bolt, which are also overtightened so the back slowly lowers to the floor, preventing a guillotine effect on her toes. (I couldn’t find steel-toe slippers.)”
What a fabulous take on this project, Jeffrey!
