How To Make Lathe Calipers

Step 1: Draw your shape and drill a hole

Clamp 7-in.-long pieces of 1/2-in. plywood edge-to-edge on a drill press and drill holes with the desired diameters centered at the seam.

Step 2: Cut out the shape

Clamp the parts to the workbench and cut the pieces into a comfortable shape with a jigsaw.

Step 3: Attach the parts together

Hinge the two parts at the narrow end with a strip of leather or plastic. Label them and keep them handy for your next turning adventure!
