Sure, you can buy depth stops for drilling, but who can find ’em when you need ’em? When you need accurate hole depths for shelf pins, here’s a low-tech trick that’ll give you precise repeatable depths. Just cut a small block of wood as shown and drill a hole right down the center with the diameter bit you’ll be using. You can micro-adjust the depth by sliding the bit in or out of the chuck slightly and then tighten it down once you’ve got it.
