Thousands of Ford vehicles are subject to a "Do Not Drive" order after it was discovered that they have faulty brakes.

Ford Issues “Do Not Drive” Warning on 2,000+ Cars With Risky Brake Defect

While recall announcements are common, and some are focused on relatively minor defects, there are some critical recalls that you should not, under any circumstances, ignore. The latest Ford recall is one of them. Thousands of Ford vehicles are subject to a “Do Not Drive” order because the defects they have are exceptionally dangerous and put drivers, passengers, and other motorists at a high risk of injury or death due to an accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a brief explaining what the “Do Not Drive” order entails. Read on to find out what the problem is, which vehicles have the defect, and how to remedy the problem.
Why Do Some Ford Vehicles Have a “Do Not Drive” Order?
According to the NHTSA brief, thousands of Ford vehicles are subject to a “Do Not Drive” order because of faulty brakes. The brief explains that “the brake booster pushrod retaining spring may not have been installed, which can allow the pushrod to disconnect from the brake pedal and cause a sudden loss of brake function.” Disconnected brake pedals and a loss of brake function render these vehicles dangerous because they “fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 135, ‘Light Vehicle Brake Systems’ and 105, ‘Hydraulic and electric brake systems.'” Or, put more simply: “a sudden loss of brake function increases the risk of a crash.”
Which Ford Vehicles Are Part of the “Do Not Drive” Order?
Ford is recalling over 2,300 vehicles, including:
- 2025 F-550 SD
- 2025 F-450 SD
- 2025 F-350 SD
- 2025 F-250 SD
Ford mailed out owner letters at the end of June 2025. So if you own one of the aforementioned vehicles, you should keep an eye on your mailbox. Per the NHTSA, “owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been repaired.”
How Will Ford Fix This Problem?
Ford “will inspect and repair the brake pedal assembly as necessary, free of charge.” Don’t delay scheduling this repair. Faulty brakes are always a bad sign, and an official “Do Not Drive” order is the equivalent of a flashing red light screaming “danger!” So take the order seriously and don’t get behind the wheel until your vehicle has been repaired.
