To cut clean circular holes in sheet metal or thin pieces of wood, take a tip from reader Ed Bernadou: Clamp the workpiece in a wood sandwich. The “bread” layers on the top and bottom keep the drill in line when it’s penetrating the workpiece, and ensure a clean-edged hole as you drill. Measure and mark the top piece first, and then clamp it square with the workpiece so the hole is drilled in the right spot.
