dado a rabbet

You can precisely cut rabbets on cabinet and drawer parts if you clamp or bolt a 3/4-in. thick plywood fence to your table saw’s metal fence and use it with a dado blade. After attaching the wood fence to the metal fence (most metal fences have holes to accommodate small-diameter bolts), position and tighten it over the dado blade you’ve cranked below the table. Keep the bolts and the metal fence out of the way of the blade. Turn on the saw and slowly raise the blade, cutting away the wood until you reach the desired height. Make practice cuts—adjusting the fence side to side and the blade up and down—until the rabbet’s depth and width are just right.
