The article doesn't tell you how to prepare the surface. For exterior painting are you saying it's ok to paint without washing the surface with trisodium phosphate solution/. My understanding is that" painting is 90% preparation". What happened to the preparation step?

Thanks for your advice! I'm just doing the peak above my door way a light blue color so I think I'll be able to manage. If I were to do my whole house I would just hire residential painting in Raleigh NC because if you mess up it's there for the world to see. Thanks again for the help, I'm excited to get started!
