I built this but since it was going to be outside I did the entire thing using Cedar.
I didn't paint it because why cover up such a beautiful wood. I did 4x4 post sides
for the Trellis and put copper caps on it. It looked great.

I'd suggest a short cut however that i took (abit of a cheat) but you can buy the
Tellis part already built if you look around. I bought the toughest tellis I could
made out of Cedar and I backed the trellis with Strips of 2x8 cedar so the strongest
wind doesn't do anything to it. Mind it against a part of the garage so it's not up
in the air. White looks nice but I found the beauty of cedar to be a touch classier
