duiturself: Well, I just completed the job. BEAUTIFUL! Was it work? Yes. Back breaking? I would not say that. I just turned 67, and did take a lot of breaks. However, I was able to do the job ON MY TERMS as opposed to the rental place. I bought the cheapest 3x21 sander from Menards. The useless little dust bag was replaced with a shop-vac hose. Had to ream out the addapter to make it work. Oh well. Worked great. And, it's good for the next floor in the house! Yes, I used 15 80 grit belts, and, 5 120 grit belt. Still a lot cheaper than renting the machine and buying THEIR belts/drums.
Bottom line? I'm happy.

Roger - I hope you did not try that. It's not worth the back pain, or the cost of all the belts you would need.

OK, I'm a cheapskate, and on a fixed S.S. income. I would like to use a 3x21 belt sander, fitted with a shopvac hose, to refinish our floors. I have the time, as I'm retired. Yes, it will be a lot of work for me, however, I am in good physical shape, and will take a lot of breaks. What do you think? Drop me a note, rd6475@hotmail.com
