If you live in extreme weather conditions (and more of us seem to every day), you need a bullet-proof exterior house paint that can stand up to Mother Nature’s fury. I’m talking about paint that stands up to rain, freezing temperatures, high humidity and salt. That has superior adhesion, provides excellent hide and gloss retention. And that holds its color over the long haul and is both UV and mildew resistant.
Sounds like a tough (nearly impossible) challenge, doesn’t it? But while doing some research for a recent article, I kept coming across exterior house paints that have been winning rave reviews from pro painters across the country. Sherwin-Williams Duration, Behr Premium Ultra and Benjamin Moore Aura exterior paints bill themselves as one-coat, self-priming paints, and all carry a lifetime guarantee. They can be used on wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiber cement siding, masonry, stucco, galvanized metal and more. These are top-quality, 100 percent acrylic latex exterior house paints that continue to prove themselves year after year under extremely difficult circumstances.
Now these paints aren’t cheap—you’ll pay as much as $60 a gallon. These premium paints are also thick, sticky and fast drying, so they can be harder to work with than other exterior paints. But unless
you truly enjoy the long, hard hours that go into prepping and painting
your house, it might be worth paying more on the front end for something
you won’t have to revisit for a very long time.
