I can see where you screwed the new drywall patch into the cleats that you screwed to the joists, but what did you screw the screws to on the two other sides of the patch? You show screws on all 4 sides of the patch. You need to correct "Mist water over the surrounding ceiling texture in an area about 24 in. out from the patch to soften it so you can scrape it off to prep for the taping work" I think you wanted it to say "in an area" 2-4 in. out?

For the life of me I cannot see how the backer board applied in photo 2 lines up with the screw placements in photo 3. Photo 2 shows the backer board being placed vertically (3/4 in thick). The screws in photo 3 on the patch and the original wall can't possibly line up with the 3/4 inch thick board to secure it.
