Always check the spark plug gap before installing to the cylinder head - make sure the gap is correct for the engine and application. Also, you can place a small amount of anti-sieze to the spark plug threads to prevent seizure.

Old gas is a bugger. I have seen what it can do to a carburator. As the gas deteriorates, it leaves behind a orange gel-like substance which will clog the needle sized ports in the carburator. Merely removing the old gas and replacing it with fresh may not unblock the ports. You may have to dismantle the bowl/carburator and go at it with carb cleaner and a needle (be careful not to enlarge the port with the needle). By running the tank dry at the end of the mowing season or by using fuel stabilizer for the last couple of tankfuls, you can easily avoid the problems associated with old gas.
