    • Hammer
    • Tape measure
    • Stepladder
    • Safety glasses

For Solution B, you'll also need a caulk gun, circular saw and screw gun. For Solution C, you'll also need a circular saw with a masonry blade, spade, cold chisel and margin trowel.

Required Materials for this Project

Avoid last-minute shopping trips by having all your materials ready ahead of time. Here's a list.

    • For bridging, you'll need metal bridging and 1-3/8 in. joist hanger nails.
    • For plywood, you'll need 3/4-in. CDX or BC plywood, 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, construction adhesive and 1-1/2 in. drywall screws.
    • For adding a wall, you'll need 2x4 lumber, 2x6 lumber for the header, and 16d nails.
    • For adding a beam, you'll need two 2x12s, 16d nails and an adjustable post.
