I actually used a door kick plate. just cut to size and screw to the door. Make it much larger than the area so your lil pooch doesn't hurt their nails or feet too :)

I added a panel of clear plexiglass to the sides of our french doors using velcro. This keeps the dogs from scratching the doors.
